When self-doubt creeps in, don't ignore it - address it. Respond to harsh self-criticism with something more compassionate. Talk to yourself like a trusted friend and refuse to believe your unrealistic, negative inner monologue.
- Amy Morin
Rick Carson, author of Taming your Gremlin, referres to that harsh critical voice as our gremlin. Quite a fitting name! My gremlin has been known to speak to me almost constantly. "Why do you bother?", "You aren't good enough?", "Well you messed that one up!", "You are useless","Why can't you just be normal?". These are some of his favorites. Whatever your gremlin is telling you is a LIE. Anything negative you have to say to yourself is a LIE. What I have learned is that I have a voice and I can speak back. This quote suggests compassion, I personally respond better to very firm, sometimes harsh responses. "Go pound sand Gremlin!". Regardless of your methods of respond please respond. Just like any bully, the more you interact with your gremlin, the more it will grow. Call its bluff, and it gets smaller!
Just in case you didn't know....you are wonderfully amazingly perfect just the way you are and you can do, be, or think anything and nothing will change that!
Thought for the day: What do I need to say to my gremlin today?
